This is because ceramic cookware is claimed to be environmentally-friendly and safer to use since it does not use chemicals PFOA and PTFE.

The non-stick feature of ceramic cookware is made of silicon dioxide and the oleophobic and hydrophobic encapsulated on the coat. In short, ceramic cookware is oil and water resistant. This makes the food that you are cooking does not stick to the pan. Another feature of ceramic cookware is its heat retainability. This feature allows you to continue cooking the meal even after removing it from the stove for a couple of minutes.

About Nonstick Cookware

Nonstick cookware is also known as Teflon. Well, actually Teflon is a brand name in which the manufacturer uses PTEF or Polytetrafluoroethylene to create nonstick cookware before the ceramic era. In the first place, this substance is only used to coat skillet or pans, but late the creators discovered the non-stick properties. People use Teflon cookware for good reasons as they do not need to use lots amount of oil. Teflon cookware is also known to be very sturdy and resistant.

Professionals say About Nonstick Cookware

In recent years, the debate about non-stick cookware effects arises. Researchers found out that at high temperature, PTEF releases toxic fumes which are considered carcinogens in the food. This is because PTEF is non-stick and stable in solid form, but as the temperature increases, it starts deteriorating. If you have pets at home especially birds, using Teflon is not advisable since animals are more sensitive than humans.

If you are going to buy non-stick cookware, make sure to choose the thick one to ensure that it absorbs heat. The thinner pan will get hotter easily and may release toxic gasses faster. Well, Teflon cookware does not automatically release toxic gasses. You can use it safely according to directions and do not heat it up over 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

Pros and Cons of NonStick Cookware

When choosing the right cookware, it is important not to let the global debates affect you. You should choose one according to your needs.

  • High durability
  • Easy to clean
  • Good non-stick properties

  • Should not use over 500 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Made of PTFE which is a potentially harmful chemical
  • Not a good choice if you have pets at home

  1. Hey Ellen,
I’m always concern about my family health issue that’s why I always check and double check while buying new cookware or any kitchen accessories. Most of the nonstick cookware available in the market not healthy. Because most of them are not free of PTFE, PFOA and other harmful materials. Most of the expert also consider Teflon is harmful to human health. However, some Ceramic Cookware available in the market from renown brands like GreenPan, GreenLife or Calphalon is still safe for healthy cooking. And I’m using a ceramic cookware set from GreenLife and another one from Calphalon. So I strongly recommend these cookware sets as they are good for healthy cooking.
However, Thanks for the excellent post with helpful information.
